MediaBeacon Revolution Single User License, DAM(Digital Asset Management Software), Mac Macintosh MediaBeacon is a unique digital asset management solution that is both versatile and functional while maintaining stability and protecting assets.
ASSET MOBILITY
Other asset management systems hold their users hostage: once a file has been imported into the system, it is difficult to export and virtually impossible to export with metadata. MediaBeacon frees your data, enhances your access, and puts you in control. MediaBeacon stores all of the asset information: thumbnail views, extended views, metadata (in XML format) and the original file on the server in an open, easy to use format. Exporting an asset and its metadata is as easy as copying its folder. Moving an asset from one MediaBeacon server to another only requires a single folder copy, not a computer scientist and a network administrator.
PDF CATALOG
We all love the Internet, but we also know that it is not appropriate or accessible in every situation. MediaBeacon can generate PDF catalogs for groups of assets. This catalog can be saved, printed, or emailed, so you can share assets offline, online, or over coffee. The PDF file even maintains links to the original MediaBeacon server, and users can click on assets in the PDF catalog to open them online.
CD/DVD Production
MediaBeacon offers optional integration with the Rimage Amigo II for automated CD-ROM and DVD-ROM production.
The Amigo II offers a networked, and fully automated, single recorder system that allows MediaBeacon users to create customized CDs or DVDs for customers or archival purposes on-demand. The Amigo II also features the Everestô printer as a standard feature.
The MediaBeacon/Rimage combination offers your employees, customers, and partners the ability to copy assets and all associated metadata to CD or DVD with thumbnails of the assets printed on the media. All CD or DVD production is managed through MediaBeaconís web interface and is fully integrated with the Amigo II. MediaBeacon tracks all CD or DVD production in its usage log to provide easy job status and user accountability online.
Rimageís patented Everestô printing technology redefines the industry standard with its groundbreaking thermal-retransfer system. Your organizationís CDs and DVDs will look and feel professional and BrighTech can provide design services to brand your media to create a lasting impression with your customers.
The Amigoís economical production design makes fast turnaround of short-run CDs and DVDs simple and without operator intervention. The Amigo can create ISO 9660 images (Level 1; level 1 Relaxed; Level 2, Joliet), Macintosh HFS, Hybrid ISO 9660/HFS, ISO 9660 with Apple© Extensions image, Rockridge and UDF.
COMPATIBLE
MediaBeacon is the most flexible digital asset management system on the market today. It also ìplays well with othersî by offering compatibility with the following products and services:
MediaBeacon servers have built-in connectivity for AppleTalk, Microsoft Windows and NFS. This allows MediaBeacon to provide direct connectivity to assets for all of your employees and partners, not just a certain platform or system. MediaBeacon can also use AppleTalk connectivity from Helios and Xinet products in place of the default connectivity.
MediaBeacon can index any file system that supports NFS. This allows MediaBeacon to index a number of disparate servers including Windows NT/2000, Solaris, Linux, SGI, *BSD and others.
MediaBeacon is available for a wide variety of operating systems including Red Hat Linux, Solaris and Mac OS X.
MediaBeacon Archive can integrate with numerous backup/recover products such as UNIX tar, BRU and SGL FlashNet.
MediaBeacon can index any file type. MediaBeacon can create thumbnail and extended previews for 100+ image and video file types including QuickTime, JPEG, EPS, TIFF, MPEG, BMP, GIF, etc.
CUTS EXPENSES
Our current MediaBeacon clients are ecstatic! Why? They have realized the cost savings from using MediaBeacon. Here are some examples:
A single trained MediaBeacon administrator can manage multiple servers with thousands of users. Some of our clients have even provided administration access for selected customers and partners, so that they may assist with administration. No other asset management products actually allow your partners and clients to assist you with administration.
Tired of passing Zip disks or CD-ROMs around? Our customers were also! MediaBeacon allows clients to directly access and download assets and OPI ìlow resî without additional work. If it is on a server that MediaBeacon is indexing, then it is available (in a secure fashion) for your customers to download. No overnight shipping. No donating disks ìto the causeî.
MediaBeacon runs quickly and efficiently on low-cost Red Hat Linux servers; no ìbig ironî is necessary (MediaBeacon is also available for Sun Solaris and Mac OS X).
Tired of high-priced database software and administrators? MediaBeacon actually turns the database to a nice, well-behaved citizen on your server. MediaBeaconís default database is MySQL and the database is only used to provide speed and a responsive user experience. Everything is on the MediaBeacon serverís file system. If the database has issues, delete it and allow MediaBeacon to re-index the volumes that it reads. Our clients do not need dedicated database administrators for MediaBeacon.
FOLDER BASED
MediaBeacon not only indexes the files themselves, but the directory structure as well. This directory structure is fully navigable over the Web and allows features such as categories and simplified administration. Each of your clients can be given separate folders that will provide a personalized experience and prevent clients from seeing otherís assets and resources. Your employees will love MediaBeacon, because any changes that they make on the server will automatically be indexed and available for customers immediately.
HIERARCHICAL MANAGEMENT
MediaBeacon user access is based on the serverís folder structure. This makes it very easy for MediaBeacon administrators to create different user types and manage access quickly and easily. Simply stated: All MediaBeacon users have access to all subfolders in their home folder. This allows the administrator to easily create folder structures for different user types, and make sure that separate clients cannot see each otherís assets and resources. Users that have more privileges can access the folders of their users and actually assist your administrator in user, file and folder management.
OPEN ARCHITECTURE
MediaBeaconís architecture is based on the following widely accepted and/or Open technologies:
JavaServer Pages (JSP)
Java Servlets
JavaBeans Component Architecture
Apache HTTP Server (Commonly know as the ìApache Web Serverî)
Apache Tomcat
SQL97 compliant database products such as MySQL, Oracle, etc.
ImageMagick
Helios Ethershare, netatalk or Xinet K-AShare
Samba
eXtensible Markup Language (XML)
SIMPLE
MediaBeacon frees you from technology and complexity. Other asset management systems require extensive training, support and multiple technologies. MediaBeacon was developed exclusively a web application that can be utilized and administrated through popular and familiar web browsers such as Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer. MediaBeacon uses familiar metaphors, such as menus and folders, so that your users and customers will be able to jump right in. MediaBeaconís simplicity eliminates unnecessary proprietary software and puts you in control so hidden costs do not prevent you from making a profit.
SPEED
Motorcycles, bottle rockets and MediaBeacon. What do they all have in common? Speed. MediaBeacon can index and import thousands of files per hour. The web interface is crisp and responsive in popular web browsers. Complicated searches occur in mere seconds. BrighTech knows that your time is important, and we wrote MediaBeacon to save your time, your co-workerís time and your clientís time.
UNMODIFIED WORKFLOW
Other systems have a strict import routine that locks up your production employeesí workstations, or forces a convoluted check-in/check-out routine that requires a degree in rocket science to operate. MediaBeacon understands the importance of workflow and has an extremely important feature: it keeps it intact. MediaBeacon will index files on its server, or on any mounted volumes, and import them without any operator intervention or complicated client software. MediaBeacon will also continue to index files for changes or additions. Imagine being able to work directly with a server, and having the latest version of the asset appear online ready for use by your digital asset management system.
UPLOAD/DOWNLOAD
MediaBeacon has powerful features to allow users to request, receive and add assets. The Loading Dock allows users to collect and prepare assets for transfer (similar to a shopping cart). Images can be resized, reformatted and repurposed on the fly. Transfer options include optimization for Mac OS (resource forks, anyone?), Windows and CD/DVD-ROM production (optional hardware from Rimage is required to create CD or DVD-ROMs automatically.)
Files are easy to add to MediaBeacon: Single files can be uploaded through MediaBeaconís web interface. Multiple files can be uploaded using .zip or StuffIt archives, which MediaBeacon will automatically unarchive and index the contents. Users can monitor the progress of an upload with MediaBeaconís progress bar.
WEB ADMINISTRATION
Virtually all MediaBeacon administration can be done via the web and many of our clients do all of their administration exclusively through the web. MediaBeacon user management is easily executed through the web interface including adding users, changing passwords, modifying userís rights, folder access, etc. In addition, database management can be accomplished over the web: new databases and metadata fields can be created, removed, or changed, and data in fields can be validated.
Finally, MediaBeacon features can be managed from a web browser. This includes integration with OPI systems like Helios EtherShare OPI or Xinet FullPress, and management of the creation of thumbnails and extended views, and setting up automated CD/DVD-ROM creation.
